Summer School

The Summer School of the CMMR Conference will take place from the 21st of September to the 23rd of September, just before the CMMR Conference. The theme of the Summer School is Music with plants, plants with Music.

The program for the Summer school consists of a mix of lectures, practical workshops and a public concert featuring the Summer School participants, the speakers, the Digitópia Collective ensemble and, if appropriate, a group of children from a local school. The aim is to develop performance, compositional strategies and interactive systems to make music with and inspired by plants using custom made hardware and software.

You can benefit from participating in the CMMR Summer School if you are:
– enrolled in a MA/MSc/PhD program in computer science, music & media technology or music education;
– interested in exploring interdisciplinary knowledge to develop your skills and finding insights that can inform and drive your research work;
– interested to work and create music in group;
– interested to develop creative work using Arduino and/or Raspberry Pi and software such as MaxMSP, PureData or Processing.

To apply for a place on the Summer School, email a Curriculum Vitae and a letter of interest that clearly indicates your motivation and previous experience with music technology and/or music education by the 23rd of June 2017 to the SMC Summer School Chair, Filipe Lopes, at flopes@ojm.pt.

A maximum of 20 selected participants will be notified by the 30th of June 2017. A minimum of 10 participants is needed in order for the Summer School to take place. The cost of attending the Summer School, including lectures, workshops, laboratory material, coffee breaks and concerts is €100.
